Difference Between Court Marriage And Marriage Registration

  • The divorce decree must be shown as proof that the bride or groom was previously married but later divorced.

  • The prior spouse's death certificate must be presented if the bride or groom is a widow or widower.

Marriage Registration: Documents Required

  • Any government-issued document, such as a birth certificate, passport, or Aadhaar card, must be shown by both parties as proof of age.

  • Any government-issued ID card, such as an Aadhaar card, passport, PAN card, or driver's licence, must be presented by both parties.

  • Any official document issued by the government, such as a passport, driver's licence, or Aadhaar card, must be provided by both parties as proof of residence.

  • The marriage-ready parties must present official documentation of their union, such as the marriage invitation card.

  • The couple is required to submit two passport-sized photos.

  • The bride and groom must complete and return this form.

  • During the registration procedure, two witnesses must be present. They must also turn in pictures and ID proofs.

Court Marriage and Marriage Registration: Is it Same?

  • Despite their frequent interchange, marriage registration and court marriage are two distinct legal procedures. A civil marriage, often known as a court marriage, is performed in front of a judge or magistrate.

  • While marriage registration is the act of registering a ceremonial marriage with the government to grant it legal status, court marriages are preferred by couples because they are quick, easy, and do not involve religious or traditional ceremonies.
